Hair Science Fact Of The Day

Did you know that:

Hair Fact: Did you know that each of us has 100,000 to 150,000 hair follicles on our heads?
Hair Fact: Did you know that each scalp follicle can grow a hair for two to five years?
Hair Fact: Did you know that each hair follicle grows between 20 and 25 hairs in a lifetime?
Hair Fact: Did you know that if you have shoulder length hair, your tips are about three years old?
Hair Fact: Did you know that by the time the tip of your hair reaches your shoulders, it’s been growing for three or more years?
Hair that is level to your waist is at least five years old at the tips.
Hair Fact: Did you know that if you have hair at shoulder length, you have approximately 36 kilometers (22 miles) of hair on your head.
Hair Fact: Did you know that hair is made from the same material that makes up fingernails, birds’ feathers and reptilian scales? It’s called keratin.
Hair Fact: Did you know that we naturally lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day?
Hair Fact: Did you know that most of the people in the world have straight, thick black hair?
Hair Fact: Did you know that only 1.8% of the world’s population is naturally blonde?
Hair Fact: Did you know that red hair is the most rare hair color with the highest concentration being in Scotland (13%), followed by Ireland (10%)?
Hair Fact: Did you know that each hair follicle contains enough genetic material to clone a human being?
Hair Fact: Did you know that at age 50, 50% of women have 50% gray hairs?
Hair Fact: Did you know that hair is very vulnerable when it’s wet? Any pulling, combing or brushing can cause stretching or breaking. Shampoo gently, using the pads of your fingers (not your nails) to massage the formula into your scalp and then into a lather, without any vigorous scrubbing or rubbing.
Hair Fact: Did you know that you should never brush wet hair—use a wide-toothed comb or pick to separate tangles before styling. This helps protect hair from unnecessary damage or hair breakage.
Hair Fact: Did you know that by simply angling the nozzle down the shaft of the hair while blow drying, you can help prevent damage? Angling down keeps the cuticle from being roughed up.
Hair Fact: Did you know that you should use flat irons and curling irons only on completely dry hair. Hot tools like these on wet hair can boil the water within each strand, causing damaged hair that can lead to split ends and breakage.
Hair Fact: Did you know that you should consider your hairbrush an investment. There are three things to keep in mind when buying a brush: 1) Look for natural fiber bristles, like boar bristles. They help move your hair’s natural oils from the scalp along the hair shaft. 2) If 100% boar bristles feel too soft for your hair, try a 50/50 natural and synthetic mix. 3) Stock up. You’ll need a different brush for each different styling job. Paddle brushes for straightening. Barrel or round brushes for styling.
Hair Fact: Did you know that rinsing hair in fresh water or club soda after swimming in the ocean or pool can help keep it looking healthy?
Hair Fact: Did you know that a small amount of leave-in conditioner will soften locks while you play volleyball or frolic in the waves?
Hair Fact: Did you know that hats have never been more fashionable and flirtatious, and they do wonders to protect your color from the sun?
